Amazon has 17 fulfilment centres in its UK network – and three of them are in Doncaster. The first was opened nine years ago, and the town now hosts Amazon’s first UK robotics site which looks after Amazon Pantry customers, and the iPort fulfilment centre.
At the start of National Apprenticeship Week, Amazon UK announced the creation of 1,000 new apprenticeships over the next two years. There will be nine different programmes lasting between 13 months and four years and will be on offer to people of all levels ranging from IT, safety and HR through to software engineering, robotics, leadership and technology.
Stuart Morgan, General Manager of Amazon’s iPort fulfilment centre said: “We want to give people opportunities to succeed in the digital age, regardless of their background. “Our fully-funded apprenticeship programme, from entry-level through to degree-level, will provide an exciting path to becoming Amazon’s future team leaders, engineers and innovation drivers.”
If you’re thinking about an apprenticeship scheme, then Doncaster’s James Varley who is one of 15 apprentices currently working at Amazon’s iPort facility, said: “Apply right away! Amazon is a great place to work. It has a brilliant team with great cultural diversity.”
